CHEMICAL PEEL

People have always sought a smoother and more beautiful skin. As we grow out of our teenage skin problems, then we begin the next phases of aging: fine wrinkles, mild scarring and other irregularities of the skin caused by sun exposure, smoking. Today, new techniques and technologies such as chemical peels offer safe and effective ways to improve the texture of the skin.

Chemical peel is a process whereby a chemical solution is applied to the surface of the skin to peel away the top cell layers which will be replaced during the healing process with a fresh, new skin surface.

Chemical peels are not a substitute for facelifts, but can improve the texture of the skin. Your cosmetic surgeon can discuss your individual circumstances and review the procedure and the chemical peel he or she plans to use with you. It is important that you understand the procedure, so be sure to ask your surgeon any questions you may still have.

There are now several different types of chemical peels depending upon your particular condition. For certain types of scars and pits, dermabrasion, which uses a tool to sand the surface of the skin, may be suggested. Your surgeon will discuss your condition to see if and what type of chemical peel is right for you.

Chemical peels are a normally safe and popular way to treat facial wrinkling and fine scarring, but like all surgery; chemical peels involve some level of risk. To help ensure a successful outcome, the patient should be a good candidate, the surgeon should be well-trained in chemical peel technique, the surgical facility should be properly equipped and the patient should follow the doctor's instructions and advice.

Although nearly always performed on an outpatient basis, a full face chemical peel may require an overnight stay. Anesthesia is usually not required for chemical peels, because the chemical peel solution itself acts as an anesthetic. However, the use of a local or general anesthetic for full face peels.

For some, this may be a full face chemical peel, which would cover the entire face. Others may need a partial chemical peel, such as around the mouth, the forehead, or on cheeks.
You will feel a light burning sensation that will subside and you will experience temporary throbbing. After the application, your surgeon may apply an ointment or for a deep chemical peel, may apply a bandage mask. Your cosmetic surgeon has now "peeled" off the top layer of your skin to reveal a fresh, new surface skin. The entire procedure usually takes from 15 minutes to an hour depending upon the extent and type of chemical peel.

While complications are extremely unusual, you should discuss the risks and possible side effects with your doctor. Chemical peels can offer softer, smoother skin to those who never thought it was possible.

FACE LIFT

Face lift surgery-is the removal of lax skin. These wrinkles can be related to age, hereditary or environmental factors. The appropriate time to have a consultation is when you no longer look the way you feel. This may be in your 40s or your 90s.
Face lifts can do more than improve the appearance of facial skin. It can also be a tremendous boost to a person's self-esteem. While there is no "right" age to undergo a face lift, your cosmetic surgeon will evaluate the condition of your skin and may discuss alternate or additional treatments with you. In combination with face lifts, other procedures may be performed including: eyelid surgery; brow lift, forehead lift; facial implants; partial chemical peel; laser resurfacing; Botox; lip augmentation; chin augmentation; nose reshaping or liposuction.

A face lift is considered to be a major operative procedure. Like any extensive surgical procedure, operative incisions and complicated surgical stitching is required. You must accept your cosmetic surgeon's judgment and realize that he will only remove the skin of the face that can be done safely and suitable for you particular facial contour. The face lift procedure as with the brow lift procedure can improve wrinkled skin, but skin type and patient age are important factors in the final result.

It is important for all patients considering face lifts to have realistic expectations. There are many factors involved-the amount of skin removed; age and condition of the patient; skin type, as well as its condition and texture; amount of previous sun and wind exposure as well as healing ability. Skin aging continues after the face lift operation, even though the excess skin and wrinkles have been removed. Occasionally a minor secondary procedure may be recommended to enhance results such as a brow lift.

A face lift or brow lift may be performed in an outpatient facility or in a hospital setting, under general or local anesthesia. In some cases, the operation may be performed on an outpatient basis and the patient returns home following the procedure. Other physicians may hospitalize the patient for one to two nights.

Face lifts may be performed in a hospital or an outpatient facility. Within the first week you may experience some discomfort, but most patients can resume normal activities. Be sure to always follow your cosmetic surgeon's advice following your face lift.

All questions should be directed to your cosmetic surgeon. Remember that healing is a gradual process and it may be several weeks before you will begin to see the new you. After the healing period is complete, face lifts can make you look younger, and improve your self-confidence.

RHINOPLASTY OR NOSE SURGERY

Nose Surgery or rhinoplasty is a procedure that changes the size and shape of the nose, either by increasing or decreasing the bridge, changing the angle, narrowing the nostrils or reshaping the tip, it is often referred to as a ‘nose job'. Most people chose nose plastic surgery simply to change the shape of their nose; some people may choose nose surgery after a facial injury or to help relieve nasal obstructions. Nose plastic surgery can also help change unwanted characteristics of your nose. Although most surgeons prefer to not operate on younger patients until they have completed their growth spurts. A person's social and emotional adjustment is also taken into consideration.

During your consultation, you and your surgeon will discuss how you would like your nose to look following the ‘nose job' or rhinoplasty. Your surgeon will thoroughly assess your nose and facial structure and discuss your options, given the description of your desired nose. Your surgeon should also discuss the range of plastic surgery nose procedures available, the expected outcome, risks and costs involved and answer any questions you may have. Some insurance companies will pay for the surgery if it is done to correct a nasal obstruction.

Most of the plastic surgery nose procedures are performed usually on an outpatient basis and take an hour or two depending on the extent of the correction and the procedure. The nose surgery is usually performed under a local or general anesthetic. And although you may be mobile immediately following your nose plastic surgery, you may want to arrange for someone to drive you home after surgery and to help you around for a day or two.

After a plastic surgery nose procedure, you're likely to have swelling and bruising around your nose and eyes. This will peak and begin to decrease after the second or third day. Most of the swelling will subside after the first week or two. And it's also common to experience some nasal stuffiness, particularly if you've had surgery on the septum.

The cosmetic surgeon should be well trained and the patient should follow the doctor's instructions and advice. Nose surgery just as any surgery has some risk maybe from unusual complications is but it's usually a safe procedure when performed by a qualified cosmetic surgeon.

HAIR REMOVAL

Laser hair removal has proven to be a popular cosmetic procedure, particularly laser facial hair removal. Women and men can take advantage of this procedure to treat unwanted hair on virtually any places. With new technologies constantly evolving we can direct you towards practices that will utilize aesthetic lasers for your treatment. People elect this procedure because it has proven to be safe, gentle and effective. You may also return home or to work immediately after your treatment. Laser hair removal, including laser facial hair removal is not considered to be a surgery it's usually performed at a surgical facility, or surgeon's office and it could last from 15 minutes to one hour.

Your surgeon will use a laser. The laser passes harmlessly through the skin and is absorbed by the hair follicle. This action disables the hair follicle and reduces its ability to grow new hair. Lasers used in this procedure are designed to act on hair follicles only, leaving surrounding tissues unharmed and safe enough for laser facial hair removal procedures. The pulses produced by the laser create a minor burning or stinging sensation that most patients can tolerate without anesthetic. Your treated area may be slightly pink, red or swollen, producing the feeling of mild sunburn for a day or two, but this will disappear in a short time. You surgeon may provide you with an antibiotic ointment that will quickly reduce these symptoms. To have a permanent hair loss maybe a few treatments will be needed; this will also be dependent on the type of aesthetic laser used throughout your treatment, as the varying aesthetic laser used will have varying results.

HAIR REPLACEMENT

Hair replacement is one of the most important cosmetic procedures for men. And the most common cause of hair loss is Male Baldness is which could be treatable by surgical procedures. Both heredity and hormonal factors play important roles in this type of hair loss. Hair loss, resulting from scarring caused by burns, injury or diseases of the scalp, may sometimes be corrected. There are several surgical procedures which a cosmetic surgeon can perform to help treat hair loss.

Hair Transplantation is the most widely used technique. Small grafts of healthy, hair bearing skin are removed from the sides and back of the scalp and transplanted into the areas of baldness. These grafts may vary in size from one single hair up to 30 hairs in standard graft, measuring one-fifth of an inch in diameter. Multiple hair transplant sessions are necessary since these grafts, commonly referred to as plugs, are spaced far enough apart to allow sufficient blood circulation, ensuring healthy growth of the hair. The transplanted hairs go into a temporary resting phase and will usually appear in approximately three months. These grafts continue to produce hair on a permanent basis.

Scalp Reduction is often combined with either hair transplantation or scalp flap procedures. The bald scalp on the top and crown of the head is removed surgically and the adjacent skin, which has healthy growing hair, is stretched to diminish the baldness. Several sessions are usually necessary. This method may completely cover the bald area of the crown or diminish the area significantly so that less hair transplantation is necessary to correct the baldness.

Scalp Flaps is procedure moves large sections of hair-bearing skin from the side and back of the scalp into the bald area. An advantage of this procedure is that there is no temporary hair loss; therefore, existence of healthy growing hair in the newly constructed hair line is immediate. As with the two previous procedures, usually several scalp flaps are necessary to correct significant baldness.
These surgical procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis, in the hospital or an ambulatory surgical suite under either general or local anesthesia.

There are risks in any surgical procedure. You should discuss all the benefits and risks with your cosmetic surgeon.

LIP AUGMENTATION

Lip augmentation creates fuller, plumper lips and reduces fine wrinkles around the mouth. Lips may be injected with collagen or with fat transferred from another site in the patient's body. Both liquid collagen and fat are absorbed and repeat treatments are necessary to maintain the results of the lip augmentation. Newer, longer-lasting options include implantable materials can be used. Ask your doctor about the benefits and risks.

CHIN IMPLANT

A chin implant or aesthetic chin surgery can have astounding effects on your overall facial appearance. A chin implant was originally designed to aid reconstruction for disfigurements or birth defects, however, now aesthetic chin surgery is available for all to enhance appearance. Undergoing aesthetic chin surgery can lend a symmetrical dimension to a person's face. Chin implants, made from silicone, are often sought as an alternative to other facial surgery such as nose surgery, as correcting a weak or overbearing chin with aesthetic chin surgery can result in a more agreeable facial shape. There is a range of surgery available with evolving techniques that will visibly reduce any facial scaring. Typically, aesthetic chin surgery is preformed using a light local anesthesia, to give a numb or sleepy disposition. The chin implant procedure will last between one and two hours and is conducted either as an outpatient or as a hospital stay.

Subsequent to the aesthetic chin surgery numbness, swelling or bruising may be experienced, medications can be prescribed to alleviate these symptoms. You may be required to wear a brace while you sleep for the months following the chin implant procedure to aid the healing of the surrounding tissues. Normal activities are normally resumed approximately five days after the aesthetic chin surgery with some patients returning to work with the help of camouflaging cosmetics as swelling may last for a number of months.

BOTOX®/RESTYLANE®

Botox® has become a very popular approach to reduce facial wrinkles and to rejuvenating the aging face. It is an injection of botulinum toxin, commonly known as Botox® to eliminate wrinkles in the skin. The effects are temporary, but the injections can be done in few minutes, with no recovery time, and not as complicated as many other cosmetic procedures for the face.

When Botox® is injected into a muscle, it blocks nerve signals that tell your muscles to contract. This temporarily weakens or paralyzes the muscle and has the effect of temporarily smoothing or eliminating wrinkles in the skin.
You can return to your regular activities immediately after the injection. The effects of the injection on the targeted areas are usually immediate.

The injection of Botox improves the appearance of wrinkles and in some cases eliminates them. The results are temporary, typically lasting 2 to 3 months. You will have to return for injections every 3 to 6 months to maintain the effects. Other side effects include temporary facial pain, redness at the injection site, and weakness in the muscles of the face. In extreme cases this muscle weakness can limit your facial expressions. The long-term effects of repeated Botox injections are not known. Botox injections are more convenient and less painful than other procedures for reducing wrinkles and making your face look younger, but keep in mind that the effects of an injection last only a few months. To maintain the effects, you will have to receive injections a few times per year. And you should ask your cosmetic doctor about the cost, risks and the expected results.

With RESTYLANE, you can have a natural beauty lift with the body's own material. RESTYLANE, is a crystal-clear, non-animal, biodegradable gel based on a natural substance, called hyaluronic acid. The gel is injected into the skin in tiny amounts with a very fine needle. The gel produces volume under the wrinkle, which is lifted up and smoothed out. When enhancing the lips or facial contours, RESTYLANE adds volume and shape to the treated area. Most people find the injections relatively painless. They may prick a little. If you like, a topical anesthetic can be applied to the area prior to your procedure. Immediately after the treatment, you can expect slight redness, swelling, tenderness or an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal result of the injection. The discomfort is temporary and generally disappears in a few days. The result of RESTYLANE is instantaneous and produces a long-lasting, natural enhancement, gentle and safe to your skin.
