BREAST AUGMENTATION AND BREAST IMPLANTS

Breast augmentation (or breast enlargement) is generally performed on women with underdeveloped breasts or on women who have experienced a decrease in breast size or shape due to pregnancy or weight loss. The breast augmentations surgery consists of lifting the breast tissue and placing an envelope containing a soft, natural-feeling implant material underneath. Breast implants surgery is often performed on women who desire a larger more full bust, this type of surgery can dramatically increase a woman's cup size and the results will vary according to the size of breast implant inserted. Large breast implants are available for women who wish to considerably increase their bust size.

Although several breast implants (commonly misspelled and mistyped as breat implants or brest implants) are available at the present time, the breast implant, which is used most often for breast reconstruction or augmentation purposes, is made of a silicone shell, and filled with a saline solution. Under certain conditions, a gel silicone breast implants can be used, but these are mostly used for revision surgery. Both saline and silicone breast implants have their own pros and cons, deciding on the right breast implant will need to be discussed with your doctor. There are a variety of implant designs, used for breast augmentation, all of which have advantages and disadvantages. Your cosmetic surgeon will discuss the choice of implant for your individual breast enhancement surgery, the reasons for the selection, and will review with you the largest breast enlargement and size changes that are possible with the procedure.

There are several different methods used for placement of the breast enhancements implants. An incision can be made in the crease of the lower part of the breast, along the lower half of the dark skin around the nipple or in the armpit. There are number of various incision types used when inserting boob implants, depending on the compatibility of the incision with the breast implants to be used, some surgeons will allow patient to choose their preferred method of incision. Such incision methods during breast implants surgery vary from periareolar, around the nipple to inframammary, beneath the breast. All of these methods are designed to result in minimal scarring so that the incisions are not easily detected. After the incision is made, the breast enlargement implant is carefully inserted either under the breast tissue or beneath the chest muscle. The implants are then adjusted to ideal size and symmetry before the incision is sutured closed.

To keep you comfortable after the breast reconstruction procedure or breast implant surgery a surgical dressing is usually placed to protect the incisions. Some swelling, bruising and minor discomfort may be experienced for several days after the breast enhancement surgery. Discomfort can be easily controlled with pain medication.
You may be required to wear a supportive bra. Your doctor will advise you as to when you may resume normal activity. After healing, your breast augmentation should add pleasing dimensions to your overall proportion and symmetry.
These surgical procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis, in the hospital, or in an ambulatory suite under either general or local anesthesia. BREAST LIFT

Breast lift is performed on women who have experienced sagging or drooping of the breasts. The breast lift surgery may be done in conjunction with augmentation. Several different techniques can be used for breast lifts to correct this condition depending on the degree of sagging. California breast lift surgery consists of removing excess skin from around the areola and from the bottom of the breast and rearranging the skin of the breast to tighten the skin envelope. In doing so, the position of the nipple and areola can be elevated during breast lifts to a more natural position.

BREAST REDUCTION

Large, heavy breasts can be painful due to excessive weight and often cause problems such as back pain and soreness in the shoulders from bra straps which cut into the skin, which is why a number of women opt for breast reductions. Breast reduction surgery involves removal of excess breast tissue in combination with reshaping of the breast. The incisions used for breast reductions are similar to those used for more extensive breast lifts.

Your cosmetic surgeon will discuss the varying methods of breast reduction and explain the technique that may be best suited for you. Because of the adverse symptoms (back, neck, breast and shoulder pain; limitation of activities) associated with abnormally large breasts, insurance will often cover some or all of the cost of breast reduction surgery. Be sure to check with your insurance provider.

BREAST RECONSTRUCTION

Breast reconstruction is a surgical procedure that utilizes different techniques to create a breast that closely matches the shape, size and feel of the breast that was removed.

Breast reconstruction is most often recommended for patients who have undergone a mastectomy (surgical removal of a breast) due to cancer or a pre-cancerous condition, although these techniques may also be used to correct any type of breast abnormality.

Many women feel insecure about breast abnormalities, especially after a mastectomy. Breast reconstruction offers women an opportunity in renewing a normal appearance to their breasts. This will create a sense of confidence as well as assist the woman in regaining her femininity

Risks and Complications (as with any other surgical procedure) can happen in a breast surgery. We do recommend that you ask your doctor about all the risks.
